Softball Recap: Amity Regional Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with Newtown

Amity Regional faced Newtown in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Spartans fell just short of the Nighthawks by a score of 3-2. The Spartans just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Gabby Celozzi spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Jenna Maus was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Amity Regional's defeat dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Newtown, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6-1 record this season.

While Amity Regional had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
