Softball Recap: Armstrong Trojans vs. Milford Bearcats

Armstrong lost against Milford back in May of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Armstrong Trojans lost 10-4 to the Milford Bearcats. Armstrong has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Acasia Gernentz was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over 5.1 innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Gernentz has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive pitching appearances. Gernentz was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Ellie Jameson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Even though they lost, Armstrong didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with 12 strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Milford only tossed seven.

On Milford's side, Kami Muehling spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Addison Lucht was incredible, going 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBI, and three runs.

Armstrong's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Milford, their win bumped their record up to 17-4.

Armstrong will head out on the road to face off against Hoopeston at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Hoopeston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season. As for Milford, they will be playing at home against Watseka at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams will come into the match having just posted big wins, so someone is set to suffer a big change in fortunes.
