Baseball Game Preview: Marathon Red Raiders vs. Newman Fighting Cardinals

For the second straight game, Marathon will face off against Newman. The Red Raiders will head out to take on the Fighting Cardinals at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Marathon has seven straight wins, Newman has 11 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Marathon is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 26-2 margin over Newman on Tuesday. Considering the Red Raiders have won six contests by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Newman's part, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Groene, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That run marked the first that Groene has scored this season.

Marathon's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Newman, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.
