Basketball Recap: Karson Briner's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Worth County over St. Joseph Christian

Worth County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 62-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Joseph Christian Lions. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Karson Briner, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards. Briner has become a key player for Worth County: the team is 7-3 when he posts at least eight rebounds, but 1-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Caleb New, who posted nine points and six assists.

Even though they lost, Worth County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Worth County's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for St. Joseph Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Tigers duke it out with the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for St. Joseph Christian, they will challenge South Holt at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
