Baseball Recap: Vernon Comes Up Short

If Vernon was feeling good fresh off their 19-13 takedown of Poplar Springs last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Vernon Yellowjackets fell just short of the Poplar Springs Atomics by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Atomics earlier this season, when they won 19-13.

Hunter Dyer was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He also brought in three RBI, which is notable because Vernon is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 0-7 otherwise.

Vernon dropped their record down to 2-8 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Poplar Springs, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Vernon has already played their next matchup, a 16-0 defeat against Cottondale on the 6th. As for Poplar Springs, they will face off against Malone at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The game will give Malone their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season.
