Basketball Recap: Newark Catholic's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

Newark Catholic and Patriot Prep Academy squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Newark Catholic had to settle for second. They fell 58-45 to the Patriot Prep Academy Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Green Wave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 554th, while the Eagles are ranked 233rd).

Patriot Prep Academy was led to victory by DeShawn Crawford and Antonio Rogers. Crawford shot 43% from the field on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds, while Rogers went 7-for-13 to rack up 17 points. Cameron Thomas was another key player, putting up five points and 13 boards.

With the defeat, Newark Catholic broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-17. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points over those games. As for Patriot Prep Academy, they pushed their record up to 18-6 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home.

As of now, neither Newark Catholic nor Patriot Prep Academy have any future games scheduled.
