Basketball Recap: Abbeville Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Abbeville Christian Academy was the 57-55 winner over Evangel Christian Academy when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Abbeville Christian Academy Generals took a 61-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Evangel Christian Academy Lions on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Generals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while the Lions are ranked 43rd).

Despite the loss, Abbeville Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Jayden Buckhannon, who went 7 for 14 on his way to 33 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals. The game was Buckhannon's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamarcus George, who posted six points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Abbeville Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Abbeville Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Evangel Christian Academy, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 11-1.

Abbeville Christian Academy will face off against Trinity Christian at 7:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025. As for Evangel Christian Academy, they will take on Valiant Cross Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Valiant Cross Academy has won five straight at home, while Evangel Christian Academy won seven straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
