Softball Game Preview: Cleveland Rams vs. Gray's Creek Bears

The Cleveland Rams will challenge the Gray's Creek Bears on Tuesday. Cleveland's pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so Gray's Creek's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Cleveland is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 victory over Topsail. Winning may never get old, but the Rams sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Meanwhile, Gray's Creek's hitters rose to the challenge against a Wolverines pitching crew that boasted an average of only 3.92 runs allowed on Friday. The Bears blew past Wakefield 10-3. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won 15 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Hannah Welsh made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Welsh was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Amber Miller was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Kayleigh Brown was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Gray's Creek always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wakefield only posted an OBP of .344.

The win made it two in a row for Gray's Creek and bumps their season record up to 22-3. As for Cleveland, their record is now 18-4.

Everything went Cleveland's way against Gray's Creek in their previous matchup back in May of 2019, as Cleveland made off with a 7-0 victory. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
