Baseball Game Preview: Groton Red Hawks vs. Moravia Blue Devils

The Groton Red Hawks are taking a road trip to challenge the Moravia Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Groton comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Southern Cayuga hit Groton with a four-run first inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Red Hawks took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chiefs.

Colin Brockway was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Brockway was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Brockway is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Brockway wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Timothy Forehand, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Forehand is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Nick Hildreth also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Meanwhile, Moravia came up short against Cortland on Friday, falling 7-1. The Blue Devils haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Groton's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Moravia, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 6-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Groton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Moravia struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Groton couldn't quite get it done against Moravia when the teams last played back in May of 2019 as they fell 7-3. Can the Red Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
