Soccer Game Preview: Oregon vs. Verona

The Oregon Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Verona Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Verona took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Oregon, who comes in off a win.

Oregon's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Beaver Dam with a sharp 8-0 win. Given Oregon's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin soccer rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Beaver Dam are ranked 121st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Verona duked it out with Middleton on Thursday. The Wildcats fell 2-0 to the Cardinals. Having soared to a lofty nine goals in the game before, Verona's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

The victory made it two in a row for Oregon and bumps their season record up to 6-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those two games. As for Verona, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Everything went Oregon's way against Verona in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Oregon made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
