Preview: Spring Creek Spartans vs. Elko Indians
After seven games on the road, Spring Creek is heading back home. The Spring Creek Spartans and the Elko Indians will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Spring Creek is ranked 32nd, while Elko is ranked 29th).
Spring Creek suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Saturday. They had to suffer through a rough 70-43 loss at the hands of Fernley. Spring Creek has not had much luck with Fernley recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Loss or not, Spring Creek got some senior leadership from Jaron Johnson who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and three blocks and Carson Fisher who scored ten points. Tucker Johnson was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Elko posted their biggest victory since December 16, 2023 on Saturday. They really took it to Dayton for the full four quarters, racking up a 54-21 victory on the road. The win was just what Elko needed coming off of a 43-23 defeat in their prior matchup.
Spring Creek's loss dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Elko, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.
Spring Creek and Elko were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but Spring Creek came up empty-handed after a 35-34 loss.
