Softball Recap: Westfall Triumphs

Westfall won the last time they faced Zane Trace and things went their way on Friday too. The Mustangs had just enough and edged out the Pioneers 7-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Adrina Hicks made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Westfall let Kaylynn Arthurs and Aubrey Caudy run wild. Arthurs went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run, while Caudy went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave Caudy a new career-high. Jill Butcher was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Westfall kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Westfall now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Zane Trace, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westfall will take on Adena at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 11.2 runs per game this season. As for Zane Trace, they will face off against Piketon at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. The Redstreaks will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
