Recap: Madisonville Mustangs vs. Lake Creek Lions
The Madisonville Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 74-42 loss at the hands of Lake Creek. While losing is never fun, Madisonville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 952nd, while Lake Creek is ranked 245th).
Lake Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Palmer Smith led the charge by scoring 14 points. Smith set a new season high mark in steals with two. The team also got some help courtesy of Caden Puckett, who scored 15 points.
Madisonville has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season. As for Lake Creek, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-5.
Madisonville will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mumford at 1:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Lake Creek and Del Valle will round out the year against one another at 1:30 p.m. on December 28th at.
