Baseball Recap: Metea Valley Takes a Loss

Metea Valley had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 9-9 to make it six. They fell just short of the Neuqua Valley Wildcats by a score of 5-3. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Metea Valley got a good showing from Kayden Nimer, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Nimer has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Tyler Gluting was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Metea Valley's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't).

As for Neuqua Valley, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-8-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted against Metea Valley since May 26, 2022.

On Neuqua Valley's side, they got a great performance from Jack Martin as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Owen Shannon, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Mike Langan was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

While Metea Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
