Basketball Recap: Rocky Mount Prep Drops Season-High Score on Northwest Halifax

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rocky Mount Prep). They walked away with a 54-41 victory over the Northwest Halifax Vikings on Tuesday. The Jaguars pushed the score to 41-21 by the end of the third, a deficit the Vikings cut but never quite recovered from.

Rocky Mount Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sumaya Lancaster led the charge by putting up 12 points in addition to five assists and three steals. That's the most assists Lancaster has posted since back in November of 2024. Mykhalah Lynch was another key player, posting no points along with 12 boards, five blocks, and four steals.

Rocky Mount Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in ten consecutive games.

Northwest Halifax's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kalasha Macon, who posted 17 points. Another player making a difference was Tatyanna Mcgee, who put up 12 points.

Rocky Mount Prep's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-11. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.0 points per game. As for Northwest Halifax, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Rocky Mount Prep didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 67-48 defeat against Warren County on the 5th. As for Northwest Halifax, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 46-24 victory against Southeast Halifax on the 5th.
