Football Recap: Mater Dei Takes Down Ranked Servite + How To Watch

Mater Dei faced Servite in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Monarchs came out on top against the Friars by a score of 29-19. The Monarchs pushed the score to 29-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Friars cut but never quite recovered from.

Mater Dei can attribute much of their success to Kennie Leggett, who rushed for 57 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Leggett a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two). Kayden Dixon-Wyatt also helped out with an impressive 98 receiving yards.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Mater Dei proved: they limited Servite to a paltry 2.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Dailon Clanton for the heroic effort on defense: he. Mater Dei's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.4.

Mater Dei didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Troy Bishop and CJ Lavender Jr..

Despite the loss, Servite still got an impressive performance from Kale Murphy, who threw for 236 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 43 yards.

Mater Dei has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. As for Servite, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
