Carmel Christian came tearing into Friday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 66-64 victory over the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee Eagles. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 32nd in North Carolina, while the Eagles are ranked 196th in Georgia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Carmel Christian's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-9.

Carmel Christian and Hickory Ridge will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Hickory Ridge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Carmel Christian likes a good challenge. As for Rabun Gap-Nacoochee, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Asheville School (Independent) at 7:15 p.m. on January 9, 2025.
