Softball Recap: Ponchatoula Drops Highest Score of Season Against Hammond

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ponchatoula). They put the hurt on the Hammond Tornadoes with a sharp 23-1 win on Tuesday. The Green Wave might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Sierra Bess, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Dagro, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.

Bess wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Ponchatoula kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive games.

Ponchatoula is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. Hammond is on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-19.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ponchatoula will host Kaplan at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Kaplan will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Ponchatoula surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hammond, they will be playing at home against St. Scholastica at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
