Preview: South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls vs. West Stanly Colts
South Stanly is 1-9 against West Stanly since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls will head out on the road to face off against the West Stanly Colts at 6:00 p.m. South Stanly is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
While it was all tied up 18-18 at halftime, South Stanly was not quite North Moore's equal in the second half on Friday. South Stanly fell 41-31 to North Moore. While losing is never fun, South Stanly can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 566th, while North Moore is ranked 281st).
Despite the loss, South Stanly had strong showings from Chloe Ray, who scored two points along with 18 blocks and five rebounds, and Akerria Robinson, who scored two points along with 14 rebounds and three steals. Those 18 blocks set a new season-high mark for her.
Even though they lost, South Stanly were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Moore only pulled down 21 offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, West Stanly took a serious blow against Albemarle on Friday, falling 67-40. West Stanly has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
South Stanly bumped their record down to 1-5 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.3 points per game. West Stanly's record is now 2-4.
South Stanly was dealt a bruising 63-23 defeat at the hands of West Stanly when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can South Stanly avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
