Baseball Recap: Sedgwick County Takes a Loss

Sedgwick County extended their losing streak to eight on Monday, dropping their season record down to 4-8 in the process. They came up short against the Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs, falling 11-1. If the Cougars were looking for revenge after losing 11-4 to the Fightin' Bulldogs when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Sedgwick County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tate Renquist, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Haxtun, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-2. The result was nothing new for the Fightin' Bulldogs, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

On Haxtun's side, Jaxsen Schram tossed a big game, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Schram a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kanin Koberstein, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Lock, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Haxtun beat Sedgwick County by a score of 17-4 later that day.
