Softball Game Preview: Charlotte Catholic Cougars vs. Myers Park Mustangs

The Charlotte Catholic Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Myers Park Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Charlotte Catholic came up short against Independence and fell 5-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Patriots: they've now lost eight in a row.

Meanwhile, Myers Park made easy work of Palisades on Tuesday and carried off a 14-2 victory. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.

Myers Park got a great performance from Anna Eason as she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits. Eason has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Regan Godman was a standout: she went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madeline Shuford, who scored a run while going 4-for-4.

Myers Park kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive contests.

Myers Park is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Charlotte Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.

Everything went Charlotte Catholic's way against Myers Park when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Charlotte Catholic made off with a 13-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
