Baseball Game Preview: Hawthorne Math & Science Academy Aviators vs. Locke Saints

The Hawthorne Math & Science Academy Aviators will take on the Locke Saints at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Last Monday, everything went Hawthorne Math & Science Academy's way against WISH Academy as Hawthorne Math & Science Academy made off with an 11-1 victory.

Jose Fernandez made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Fernandez was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Fernandez is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's stole at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Fabian Mercado was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February of 2024. Gabriel Ortiz was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Locke made easy work of Inglewood on Tuesday and carried off a 15-7 win.

Hawthorne Math & Science Academy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-1-1. As for Locke, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-1.
