Baseball Game Preview: Payson Lions vs. Alta Hawks

For the second straight game, Payson will face off against Alta. The Lions will challenge the Hawks at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Payson heads in on the heels of a playoff matchup on Wednesday. They fell 5-2 to Alta. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Lions couldn't push the score so high this time.

For Alta's part, Alexandros Price spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, McCoy Johnson was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Goodsell, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Alta is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Payson, their loss dropped their record down to 16-11.
