Basketball Recap: Windsor Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

After flying high against Denver East last Saturday, Windsor came back down to earth. The Windsor Wizards fell to the Mead Mavericks 67-61. The loss was the Wizards' first of the season.

Despite the loss, Windsor still got an impressive performance from Madden Smiley, who went 8 of 18 on his way to 21 points and eight boards. Smiley's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of John Backhaus, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mead to victory, but perhaps none more so than Matthew Angelo, who went 9 of 14 on his way to 23 points and eight rebounds. Angelo has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last four times he's played. Kyler Crump was another key player, going 6 of 10 on his way to 16 points.

Windsor's defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 3-1.

Windsor will face off against Mesa Ridge at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Windsor is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68 points per game this season. As for Mead, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 69-52 loss against Highlands Ranch on the 11th.
