Baseball Game Preview: Prospect Panthers vs. Del Mar Dons

Prospect is 8-2 against Del Mar since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Panthers will welcome the Dons at 4:00 p.m. Del Mar took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Prospect, who comes in off a win.

Last Thursday, Prospect was able to grind out a solid victory over Oak Grove, taking the game 6-3. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won seven in a row.

Kevin-Joseph Rieden made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Prospect is undefeated when Rieden posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, Kyle Pollace and Dale Gurtler did most of the damage at the plate: Pollace got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI, while Gurtler went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases. Moises Gonzales was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Del Mar lost 15-3 to Monta Vista on Saturday. The Dons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Prospect's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Del Mar, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.

Prospect beat Del Mar 4-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Dons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
