Softball Recap: Taft Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Taft hadn't done well against Lane Tech recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Champions. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 24th.

Michaela Power spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mia Perez, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

The victory was the third in a row for Taft, bringing their record up to 18-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Lane Tech, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Taft will head out to square off against Libertyville at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lane Tech, they will venture away from home to take on Loyola Academy at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
