Basketball Game Preview: Pleasant Grove Eagles vs. Elk Grove Thundering Herd

Pleasant Grove is 1-9 against Elk Grove since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Pleasant Grove Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Elk Grove Thundering Herd at 7:30 p.m.

Pleasant Grove is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They lost to Sheldon on the road by a 72-54 margin. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 540th, while the Huskies are ranked 109th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Elk Grove, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They strolled past Cosumnes Oaks with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 67-48.

Pleasant Grove better keep an eye on Noah Hargrave. He was instrumental in Elk Grove's win, going 14 of 23 en route to 31 points and five boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hargrave has scored at least a third of Elk Grove's points. Another player making a difference was Alphonso Moore Jr., who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Elk Grove's win bumped their record up to 16-8. As for Pleasant Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 7-17.

Things could have been worse for Pleasant Grove, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 68-51 loss to Elk Grove in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Elk Grove's Danny Dennaoui, who went 7 for 11 on his way to 18 points and eight boards.
