Basketball Recap: Ozanam Takes a Loss

Ozanam was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They took a 64-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri Crusaders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 64-27 back in January.

Despite the defeat, Ozanam saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Damontae Balmat almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine boards. A.W. Poke was another key player, putting up 13 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Ozanam smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Joachim Burton continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri, posting 29 points and seven rebounds. Burton continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Phil Basola, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten boards.

Ozanam's loss dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.

Ozanam does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chesterton Academy of St. Philip Neri, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 53-52 win against Frontier School of Excellence on the 25th.
