Recap: Las Cruces Bulldawgs vs. Volcano Vista Hawks
On Saturday, the Las Cruces Bulldawgs faced the Volcano Vista Hawks in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Las Cruces fell 59-49 to Volcano Vista. Las Cruces' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Las Cruces lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bethzy Quinones, who scored 12 points along with two steals. Quinones has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Rodriguez, who scored nine points.
Taejhuan "TT" Hill was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 14 rebounds for Volcano Vista. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hill has scored all season. Lilliana Duncan was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Las Cruces' loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Volcano Vista, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Las Cruces will face off against Mayfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Mayfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. Volcano Vista will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Cleveland at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd.
