Basketball Game Preview: Shelbyville Golden Bears vs. Roncalli Royals

Shelbyville is 0-4 against Roncalli since December of 2014 but things could change on Wednesday. The Shelbyville Golden Bears will challenge the Roncalli Royals at 6:00 p.m. Shelbyville has given up an average of 50.5 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.

Last Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Shelbyville beat Batesville 63-59. Given the Golden Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 131st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Shelbyville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mar Nicholson, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Nicholson is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Caden Claxton, who shot 63% from the field on his way to 18 points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Roncalli was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 58-52 to Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory.

Shelbyville is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 17 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. Roncalli's loss dropped their record down to 14-8.

Shelbyville might still be hurting after the 66-42 defeat they got from Roncalli when the teams last played back in December of 2020. Thankfully for Shelbyville, Carson Lyngh (who went 7-for-8 to rack up 19 points and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
