Preview: Medina Battling Bees vs. St. Edward Eagles
The Medina Battling Bees are on the road again on Friday and play against the St. Edward Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Medina had no problem doing just that on Friday. They won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Cleveland Heights 21-20. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but Medina was the better team in the second half.
Medina got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Danny Stoddard out in front who threw for 359 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.6 yards per attempt. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Knowles, who picked up 172 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, St. Edward entered their tilt with McKinley with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. St. Edward put the hurt on McKinley with a sharp 41-17 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for St. Edward, who have now won eight matches by 20 points or more so far this season.
Medina has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for St. Edward, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with that victory, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season.
Medina was dealt a bruising 41-6 loss at the hands of St. Edward in their previous matchup back in November of 2021. Can Medina avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
