Basketball Recap: Irwin County Takes a Loss

If Irwin County was feeling good fresh off their 71-37 takedown of Echols County last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Irwin County Indians took a 64-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clinch County Panthers. The Indians haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Despite the loss, Irwin County still got an impressive performance from Zay Payne, who went 12 for 22 on his way to 34 points. The dominant performance gave Payne a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Guy, who posted four points in addition to ten rebounds and six blocks.

Irwin County's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Clinch County, they pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Irwin County will welcome Atkinson County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Irwin County is facing Atkinson County at the right time seeing as Atkinson County is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Clinch County has already played their next contest (against Charlton County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
