Baseball Game Preview: Van Buren Black Knights vs. Washington County Commanders

The Van Buren Black Knights will square off against the Washington County Commanders at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Van Buren has eight straight victories, Washington County has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Van Buren barely beat McComb the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Black Knights were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Panthers on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Black Knights, who have now won five matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Washington County scored first but ultimately less than Glasgow in their game on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Scotties by a score of 6-4.

Lance Coulter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Dylan Mattingly made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.

Van Buren's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Washington County, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.
