Volleyball Recap: Pinewood Panthers vs. Design Tech Dragons
If Pinewood was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Pacific Bay Christian on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Panthers took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Design Tech Dragons on Tuesday. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Dragons recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Pinewood started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 24-26, 25-15, 25-22, 25-16.
Mailey Wang paced Pinewood's offense, picking up 12 kills. Wang got some help from Caitlin Yamaguchi and her 15 assists.
Eliot Trainor had an outrageously good game for Design Tech as she had eight digs and eight aces. That's the most digs Trainor has posted over her last six matchups. Uliana Tymoshenko also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.
Pinewood's defeat dropped their record down to 12-2. As for Design Tech, their record now sits at 3-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pinewood will challenge Basis Independent Silicon Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Design Tech, they will square off against KIPP San Jose Collegiate at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
