Baseball Recap: Ravenscroft Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses at Home

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Ravenscroft and Wake Christian Academy, and Ravenscroft kept the tradition alive. The Ravenscroft Ravens walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Wake Christian Academy Bulldogs on Friday. The Ravens have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bulldogs, too.

Matthew Hutter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up eight Ks. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Matt Ulicny, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Ravenscroft's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Reed Holt, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Ravenscroft's win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-4. As for Wake Christian Academy, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-3.

Coming up, Ravenscroft will face off against Durham Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ravenscroft is facing Durham Academy at the right time seeing as Durham Academy is stuck on a four-game losing streak. Wake Christian Academy will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Trinity Academy at 6:00 p.m. on March 25th.
