Football Recap: Santa Maria Starts Season with Defeat at Home + How To Watch

Santa Maria unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They had to suffer through a 56-0 loss at the hands of the Righetti Warriors. The Saints haven't had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Nicholas Matautia was a one-man wrecking crew For Righetti. as he threw for 246 yards and five TDs while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushed for 49 yards and one touchdown. Those five passing touchdowns gave Matautia a new career-high. Luke Miller was another key player, gaining 79 total yards and two touchdowns.

Looking ahead, Santa Maria is headed away from home for the first time to take on Hoover at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Righetti, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Nipomo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
