Soccer Game Preview: Monroe vs. West Stanly

The Monroe Redhawks will head out on the road to square off against the West Stanly Colts at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Monroe is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Independence just ended the team's three-match winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 3-2. While losing is never fun, Monroe can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 235th, while Independence are ranked 91st).

Meanwhile, West Stanly entered their tilt with Central Academy of Technology & Arts on Monday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single goal of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Cougars.

Liam Barbee and Abram Wayne scored both of West Stanly's goals, bringing their combined season tally to seven goals.

West Stanly's victory bumped their record up to 8-9-1. As for Monroe, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6-4.

Monroe took their win against West Stanly when the teams last played back in September by a conclusive 7-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redhawks since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
