Softball Recap: Gordo Takes a Loss

Gordo fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Carbon Hill on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 11-7 to the Carbon Hill Bulldogs. The Green Wave haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Gordo got a big performance out of Isabella Billings, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Billings is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lila Billings, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Gordo now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Carbon Hill, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gordo will take on Berry at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Gordo has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Carbon Hill, they will be taking part in a tournament against Hamilton at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Hamilton: 4.1, Carbon Hill: 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
