Garner is 0-4 against Wake Forest since December of 2017 but things could change on Friday. The Trojans will welcome the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Garner is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 35.8 points per game this season.
Garner hadn't beaten Fuquay - Varina on the road since November 1, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them two weeks ago. The Trojans walked away with a 34-21 victory over the Bengals. Given the Trojans' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Bengals are ranked 76th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Amir Wallace had a dynamite game, rushing for 134 yards and one score on only ten carries. Those 134 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Clinard, who threw for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Garner was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 250 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 185 rushing yards in nine consecutive matchups.
Another reason for the win was Garner's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Joseph Cappelletti, Tyquan Richardson, and Ryan Hebert, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Fuquay - Varina's side was Cappelletti, who picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Wake Forest walked away with it. They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 59-28 win over the Scorpions. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won six contests by 21 points or more so far this season.
Garner better keep an eye on Micah Olu. He was instrumental in Wake Forest's win, rushing for 260 yards and six TDs while picking up 13.0 yards per carry, and also catching one score. They are 7-1 when Olu posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 0-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Landen Perry, who threw for 135 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only nine passes.
Wake Forest has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.3 points over those games. As for Garner, their record now sits at 7-3.
Garner suffered a grim 42-19 defeat to Wake Forest in their previous matchup back in November of 2023. Thankfully for the Trojans, Rico Alston (who rushed for 107 yards and three TDs on only 11 carries, and also picked up 77 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time.
