Softball Game Preview: Hamden Green Dragons vs. Cheshire Academy Cats

The Hamden Green Dragons are taking a road trip to take on the Cheshire Academy Cats at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hamden hasn't scored more than a single run for five games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

Monday just wasn't the day for Hamden's offense. They lost 17-0 to Shelton on Monday. That's two games in a row now that the Green Dragons have lost by exactly 17 runs.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cheshire Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over Greens Farms Academy on Tuesday.

E Dibennedetto was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Dibennedetto was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, A Sutera and O Watson did most of the damage at the plate: Sutera went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run, while Watson went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. K Durkin was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Cheshire Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Hamden, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.
