Volleyball Game Preview: Beech Grove Hornets vs. Perry Meridian Falcons

After both having extra time off, the Beech Grove Hornets and the Perry Meridian Falcons will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Beech Grove has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Perry Meridian will arrive with six straight wins.

Beech Grove lost 3-0 to International on Friday.

Beech Grove was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 25-23, 25-18.

Meanwhile, Perry Meridian got the win against Plainfield on Tuesday by a conclusive 3-0.

The 3-0 score doesn't show just how dominant Perry Meridian was: they took every set by at least 14 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-8, 25-11, 25-11.

Beech Grove better focus on containing Avan Van and Ram Ni Chin as the pair were huge in Perry Meridian's win. Van had 12 digs and one assist, while Ni Chin had ten assists. Van is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had 12 or more in each of the last four games he's played. Matthew O'Connor also deserves some recognition as he served his first aces of the season.

Perry Meridian was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in April.

Beech Grove's loss dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Perry Meridian, their victory bumped their record up to 20-5.

Beech Grove couldn't quite get it done against Perry Meridian in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 as they fell 2-0. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
