Softball Recap: Huntington Comes Up Short

Huntington had lost 17 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 4-21 to make it 18. They lost 19-1 to the Hurricane Redskins. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Redskins this season, with their most recent defeat being a 15-0 loss back in April.

Huntington saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Layla Crickard, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

As for Hurricane, their record now sits at 21-4. The result was nothing new for the Redskins, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

On Hurricane's side, Sophie Dunlap made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Dunlap has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexander Anderson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kylie Bailey, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

As of now, neither Huntington nor Hurricane have any future games scheduled.
