Basketball Game Preview: Helix Highlanders vs. The Meadows School Mustangs

The Helix Highlanders will take on The Meadows School Mustangs in a tournament on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Helix not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since January 17th (when they won 71-31). They claimed a resounding 71-39 victory over La Jolla. The Highlanders haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Helix to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trey Cavazos, who shot 63% from the field on his way to 17 points and three steals. Thanks to that strong game, Cavazos now owns an excellent 45.5% field goal percentage. Another player making a difference was Jason Black, who went 6-for-10 to rack up 16 points.

Helix was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They are 6-1 when they've passed the ball that well.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask The Meadows School). They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging an 83-14 victory over Cristo Rey St. Viator. With the Mustangs ahead 60-6 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

The Meadows School found their leader in freshman Xabian Cousey, who posted 19 points. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for Cousey. Ben Chilton was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Helix's record now sits at 7-3. As for The Meadows School, their record is now 5-1.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Helix hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 56.5 points per game. However, it's not like The Meadows School struggles in that department as they've been averaging 69.3 points.
