Baseball Recap: Five Straight Road Victories for Newton

While Newton's victory against Lawrenceville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Indians 5-3. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won nine in a row.

Carson Barthelme spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Newton is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-9 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Quincy Fulton, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Newton pushed their record up to 13-9 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Lawrenceville, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.

Coming up, Newton will head out to square off against Farina South Central at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lawrenceville, they will challenge Carmi-White County at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight.
