Baseball Recap: Rancho Mirage Finds Home Field Redemption Against Palm Springs

There's no place like home for Rancho Mirage, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They came out on top against the Palm Springs Indians by a score of 6-2 on Tuesday. The Rattlers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Indians, too.

Jayden Cunningham tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Rancho Mirage's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 3-1 (and 7-10 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kobee Finnikin, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jesus Gutierrez, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Rancho Mirage's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 10-11. As for Palm Springs, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-17 record this season.

Rancho Mirage will square off against San Jacinto Valley Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rattlers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolves have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. Palm Springs will be paying especially close attention to Rancho Mirage's match: after Rancho Mirage faces off against San Jacinto Valley Academy, they'll take on Palm Springs again at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
