Basketball Recap: Middleburgh Takes a Loss

Middleburgh was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss dating back to last season. They were dealt a 63-25 defeat at the hands of the Mayfield Panthers. The Knights were probably out for revenge after losing 80-27 to them when the teams met back in January, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Mayfield's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brianna Iannuzzi, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. Iannuzzi's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Abigail Powers, who posted 19 points in addition to eight boards and six steals.

Middleburgh's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Mayfield, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-2.

Middleburgh will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Sharon Springs Central at 5:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Mayfield and Gloversville will round out the year against one another at at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
