Union Area had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Rochester Rams a 16-0 shutout. The Scotties' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last four matchups.

Sarah Straley made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single hit in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in both of her plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Irelyn Fisher and Emily Ross did most of the damage at the plate: Fisher went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI, while Ross went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Ross a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addie Nogay, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Union Area was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in eight consecutive contests.

Union Area's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Rochester, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Union Area beat the Rams by a score of 16-0 later that day.
