Recap: South San Antonio West Cougars vs. Nixon-Smiley Mustangs
The South San Antonio West Cougars''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 57-22 loss at the hands of Nixon-Smiley. South San Antonio West lost against Nixon-Smiley in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 41-0 score last time.
Nixon-Smiley found their leader in underclassman Garet Gonzales, who rushed for 158 yards and six touchdowns on only 14 carries. John Garza and his 84 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Nixon-Smiley's victory.
South San Antonio West has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Nixon-Smiley, their win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-7.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Natalia the next time they take the field. South San Antonio West will host Natalia at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Nixon-Smiley will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd.
