Football Recap: Avon Starts off Right with Win over Decatur Central

Avon took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Decatur Central Hawks, sneaking past 30-28. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Orioles have posted since August 31, 2024.

Avon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Shawn Curry, who picked up 103 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Curry really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 73 yards. Ashton Carter handled things on the ground, rushing for 86 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Decatur Central's loss came despite strong showings from Bo Polston and Hunter Harvey. Polston rushed for 122 yards and a pair of scores, while Harvey rushed for 37 yards and one TD. Harvey didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack, made one tackle, and defended one pass.

Coming up, Avon is taking a road trip to take on Ben Davis at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Decatur Central, they will host New Palestine at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
