Football Recap: Chugiak Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with South Anchorage

Chugiak faced South Anchorage in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Mustangs had to suffer through a 32-0 loss at the hands of the Wolverines. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Wolverines: they've now lost five in a row.

Chugiak didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Shelby Strange and Savannah Mason. Mason is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: she's made at least five every time she's taken the field this season.

South Anchorage's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addison Bailey, who picked up 39 receiving yards and a pair of scores, and also rushed for 131 yards on only 15 carries. Jillian Preston was another key passer, throwing for 110 yards and four TDs while completing 85.7% of her passes.

Chugiak now has a losing record of 1-2. As for South Anchorage, their win was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-2.

Chugiak has already played their next contest, a 24-0 defeat against Service on the 21st. As for South Anchorage, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 47-0 victory against Bartlett on the 23rd.
